All India Coordinated Research Project on Ground Water Utilisation was started in 2004 - 05 at Dept. of Soil and Water Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This centre functions under Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur. The project is indebted to Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and Directorate of Water Management, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha for providing the opportunity to execute research and other activities under the umbrella of AICRP on GWU center.

Research Theme of the GWU Scheme

1. To develop strategies for assessment of basin-wise groundwater potential and its quality through regional water balance studies and mathematical modeling techniques.
2. To evolve management strategies for safe development and utilization of groundwater either as a single resource or in combination with rain and other sources of water in different soil and hydro-geological formations for sustainable crops production.
3. To develop technologies for augmenting groundwater supplies through enhanced recharge in hydrologically critical areas.
4. To study groundwater pollution arising from different sources and develop its control and ameliorative techniques for the safe use of polluted water in agricultural production system.
